Why register for SSEG?

  • 1. Ensures a safe and compliant system

  • 2. To 'sell' electricity you generate back to the grid

South African municipalities have put measures in place to ensure safe and compliant installations in our electricity grids. SSEG also lightens the load on the electricity grid.

The above is achieved by registering a Solar System with your respective municipality. Only approved inverters on NERSA's list can be submitted for approval.

Is it easy to register for SSEG?

A registration form can be completed by the installer, and/or homeowner and supplied with a copy of an Electrical Compliance Certificate.

Once completed, our team will formally apply with your respective municipality.

If you would like to earn a feed in tariff for energy you generate and feed to the grid, you will require a bi-directional meter.

An independent Professional Engineer will then visit site to sign off the installation and complete a Commissioning report.

The final step is a contract between the property owner and the City

How long does SSEG registration take?

Between 2 and 12 months for approval.

Are there fees to register an SSEG system?

Typically municipality does not charge fees.
Administration and Engineer sign off fees are charged by the facilitator.
