SSEG | Haultron Energy

A Small Scale Embedded Generator (SSEG) is a type of electrical generator that can connect to and work alongside the main power grid. These generators are called "embedded" because they synchronize their operation with the grid. In South Africa, the main type of SSEG is solar PV. (solar photovoltaic) This means that the generator uses sunlight to produce electricity. These SSEGs help supplement the main power grid and provide electricity to homes and businesses.

Why register for SSEG?

  • 1. Ensures a safe and compliant system

  • 2. To 'sell' electricity you generate back to the grid

South African municipalities have put measures in place to ensure safe and compliant installations in our electricity grids. SSEG also lightens the load on the electricity grid.

The above is achieved by registering a Solar System with your respective municipality. Only approved inverters on NERSA's list can be submitted for approval.

Is it easy to register for SSEG?

A registration form can be completed by the installer, and/or homeowner and supplied with a copy of an Electrical Compliance Certificate.

An independent Professional Engineer will then visit site to sign off the installation and complete a Commissioning report.

The final step is a contract between the property owner and the City

How long does SSEG registration take?
